I find myself sharing many of the same feelings about Christmas as I grow older, especially that much of the magic of Christmas revolves around nostalgia and fond memories, however edited they have become at this point. I am fortunate enough to have two very small children presently and it is magical this year in a way it has not been in a very long time. Trying to see the world through their eyes, seeing the complete sense of wonder on their faces at things like meeting Santas out in the world, seeing Christmas displays, and everything else. I think the idea of embracing the messiness of the holiday and of life is such an important idea, too. Especially as a fellow depress-o.
Completely unrelated, hopefully this can bring some joy to you. I was listening to Tween for the first time in a long time on my way to work this morning and thought of a silly incident. Back when Tween came out the Wye Oak tour started in Hamden and I was lucky enough to go to that show (maybe my last Wye Oak show?). You guys signed my The Knot LP and I informed you a weird phenomenon I had experienced in the day or two prior. Every article I read about Tween had the title as "Neonate." I mentioned this to you because it was weird and idk if you ever gave it any thought after that but a couple of months later kept seeing weird words in my browser and remembered I had installed an extension called "millennial to snake people" in which any mention of millennial was changed to snake person, plural to snake people, and, I learned eventually, other words were changed too like tween to neonate. Whoops!
